EndNote is a powerful reference management tool that helps you save time, organise references, streamline research and collaborate effectively as you write and publish research papers.

With EndNote you can:

• Find and import references downloaded from OneSearch and databases directly into your EndNote library
• Link to Word to and automatically insert citations and update bibliographies
• Store references and PDFs, and back up your references locally or via Endnote Online
• Deduplicate large numbers of search results, reducing screening time in Systematic Reviews
• Download full-text on the web, and request interlibrary loans using EndNote Click

New for 2025:

• Use Generative AI to generate summaries of articles and PDFs.
• Use Machine Learning to help researchers identify the most suitable journals for their work based on key elements of their manuscript
• Cite highlighted quotes from PDFs

EndNote will help you to keep organised, and it is recommended to select a reference management solution. You need to provide accurate references to all the sources you use to avoid plagiarism. This is especially important with the advent of AI and "Hallucinated References". 

The loss of reference libraries can seriously impact academic work or research, and is a common reason for significant delay in research or study.

Most importantly, the University supports EndNote, and the Library can offer assistance and troubleshooting. Any problems or issues with referencing can be directed to the Faculty Librarians or emailed directly to facultylibrarians@lancaster.ac.uk . We cannot offer this service with other software such as Zotero or Mendeley.
