English Literature and Creative Writing: Dissertation

Your guide to English Literature and Creative Writing resources in Lancaster Library

Writing Your Dissertation - How Can The Library Help?

Here we hope to help you identify suitable resources for your dissertation. Properly defining your research question is key to success, and you will find that you refine this as you read more and choose what to incorporate and - importantly - what to exclude!

Faculty Librarians can help you with search strategies and how to make the best use of library resources. You can make 1 to 1 appointments with us by clicking on the links below.

Finding Resources

Depending on your dissertation topic, different databases will be relevant for your search. It is good to try searching via Onesearch at first, as this should cross-reference the various online materials we subscribe to, as well as the physical books that we hold in the Library. You can filter your search to 'Books and more', 'Articles', or 'E-books', if you wish.

The following databases may also be useful. Please make sure you are signed in as a Lancaster University user so that you will have full access to resources! You can see the full list of A-Z Databases here

Using Google Scholar with Lean Library Plugin

We subscribe to Lean Library's plugin which works in conjunction with sites like Google Scholar to show you when we have access to a book or article in the Library. You can download the plugin here. With the plugin installed, you should see extra functionality when searching.
