This page is a list of resources available from the Medical School and Library that help you memorise and review your subject. These include Question Banks and Quiz Resources, along with recommended software for creating your own Flash Cards.
Often called 'High Yield Study,' these are resources and tools that help you revise, focusing on exam or test content. They are less useful for embedding 'understanding' of a concept, which means they are part of overall good study practices, not an exclusive method for revision.

Anki is a popular application, which although not specifically for medical students, is widely used to create personal flashcard 'decks' for revision. Anki is not a Library resource so we are unable to offer support, but it is available via AppsAnywhere and support is available from ISS for issues with installation.
What is 'Spaced Repetition'
Although Anki looks like just a flashcard application, it has additional learning features. It 'schedules' cards for review, with more difficult cards shown more frequently, while easier cards are shown less frequently. This method allows students to spend more time focusing on difficult or hard to remember topics, saving time, but it still will repeat easier cards occasionally.
Why use this. The Library provides question banks?
You may discover that creating your own revision resources and questions, will allow your revision to be more course focused, and help you to understand the topic rather than just 'remembering' facts. You may also find that you can also access 'shared' decks within Anki, however these are created by other students, and may not best fit your learning style.
Installing on Personal Devices
Anki can be installed free on PCs and Macs, as well as Android tablets and phones. Install at https://apps.ankiweb.net/
iPad and iPhone access is via a paid app, from the Apple Store
Installing on University PCs
Anki is available via AppsAnywhere on University managed PCs. Some PCs however are refered to as 'Secure PCs' and Anki will be unavailable to install due to increased security settings.
